Accessibility, transparency, and accountability are more than just buzzwords for me. They are how I’ve operated my businesses and expected organizations I have been involved with to function. I place a very high value on integrity which provides respect and trust from colleagues and customers. One of the ways I have demonstrated transparency in my campaign is by completing a background check and resume verification so that you can be reassured that my claims about my background are accurate.
Government, more than almost any other institution, must be available, accessible, and accountable to you because; it’s the law, the right thing to do, and because you, the taxpayer, are the boss. County commissioners must be accessible to the people who elected them to office. While current policy allows commissioners to hide behind closed doors and make meetings less accessible, when elected, I will not adhere to this policy. While the Open Public Meetings Act is in place to ensure transparency, it is not there to limit accessibility.
I pledge to open an office in the Upper County where I will keep regular office hours. Citizens in the Upper County should not have to incur the time and expense to travel to Ellensburg for access to their elected representative or county staff. I will also work to implement a video conferencing link so that you can make public comment at county meetings from that office.
My vision toward increasing accessibility, transparency, and accountability includes:
- Opening an Upper County office where I will hold regular office hours and will have space for citizens to remotely access meetings, with plans for expand services in the future
- Ensuring that public meetings will be held close to locations which will be impacted or where the meeting is targeted for, and provide remote access to as many open public meetings as possible
- An improved communications platform so we can keep you up to date on important issues in the manner and frequency that you want
- Ensure that a senior representative from each public-facing department will hold office hours in each district as least once per month
Commissioners should be available and accessible to help you navigate the bureaucracy and advocate on your behalf. These are the goals I have as your elected county commissioner.
